This moment feels different for us. It is a moment where we are challenged with several systemic crises at the same time: the COVID-19 pandemic followed by an economic downturn, the climate crisis, and civil unrest over systemic racism. It is a moment that makes us question many of the assumptions we have about almost everything, including the nature, role, and value of design and design education.
As Designers, we claim change, transformation, and strategy to be our core competences. So shouldn’t this be our time to shine? We think designers can contribute to creating a new mindset that is fit to tangle challenges and turn them into chances: MIND 21!
We would love to share thoughts, ideas, and feelings about this moment with design practitioners, researchers, and educators, as well as students. Can we prepare co-operations and get started working on projects? We invite you to join the discussion and explore the Why, How, and What of the path in front of us. We consider this to be a journey, not just a one-time meeting and we are looking forward to seeing you soon.
Feel free to check our Miro board for some initial thoughts and questions we shared earlier. You are also welcome to read a piece we wrote: Corona redesign: A pre-manifesto.
The first session took place on the new Cumulus platform on September 24th, the next session will be announced soon.
